culture
singapore is unique because it is
a multicultural society
but what does it means to be a multicultural society?
does it mean that we are multicultural
because during racial harmony day,
we wear and exchange traditional clothing?
only when ou take cem 232 studies in multiculturalism u will noe.
does it mean to have friends of other races?
does it mean to respect other races?
and what does it mean by respect?
does it means not to critisize other races?
anyway,
for me i feel that
though i am malay,
i noe nuts about its culture
(n.b. culture not equal to religion)
for instance
during hari raya,
i don eat ketupat and stuff
and open house we have chicken rice
haha.
when i took studies in malay music
i learnt that
indonesian music and malay music is different
who knew that the gemalan was an indonesian scale?
i tot mulay and indonesian was the same
and yesterday i learnt malay dance
i took 3 hours to leann a one minute dance step
haha. ok
malay dance is difficult
who knew that the hand had a position too
and u must be sooooo gentle
so unlike me
my new year resolution: to be gentle (hehe)
anyway,
back to culture:
i feel that singapore's culture is dying
i mean we are becoming too westernized
its good la
then we wont know what our roots are
then we will lose our identity
we wont be uniquely singapore
malaysia has more malay culture than us
and since the chinese there are so united
they still preserve their chinese culture
(acc to my chinese malaysian fwen)
so what about us????
oh ya.
thanks bio ppl for having the gathering
though i felt quite useless
cause i just go there eat and watch tv
and i have yet to pay april money
